‘Banned Rubix Cubes’
29 Silly Rules People Had to Follow at School

Recently, my kid’s school district banned Stanley travel mugs. Given that I spent forty bucks on this stupid trendy cup just a month ago, I was pretty pissed when she could no longer bring it to school. Since I thought it was dumb, I complained, and found out that Stanley mugs — along with all other metal water bottles — were banned because some high school kid caved another kid’s head in with one. And, if you think about it, having nearly every kid in school equipped with a metal sledgehammer isn’t ideal.

So, that wasn’t such a dumb rule after all, but the ones below sure are.

GoldenSandslash15 . 4y ago iPods were disallowed. No other MP3 player was banned, just iPods. They made it brand-specific, for some reason. If you bought a Zune, you were fine.
slamyourdickinadoor 4y ago I went to an all-boys school. We weren't allowed to have haircuts where the hair was deemed to be too short Our headmaster was bald...
WishUponAStar35 4y ago If you got caught smoking on school grounds not only would you have your cigarettes taken from you but the deputy headmaster would smoke them for you in his office that used to absolutely stink of cigarette smoke every time you walked past, no prizes for guessing he was the one who would be out there catching the smokers on lunch and dinner breaks lol
smileymn 4y ago I had a teacher (shop teacher in middle school) who refused to call students by their names. Everyone was a number to him, 1-25. Mr. 7 can you come up to the board... if you argued with him about it, or insisted on being called by your name he would send you to the office. I have no idea why the school let this happen, it was weird and dehumanizing.
. 4y ago Natural hair colors only. I had a classmate who had platinum blonde hair. It was the color she was born with. The nuns told her, repeatedly, to stop bleaching her hair. She said it was her natural color and the nuns told her it wasn't. The girl's parents finally got involved and then the harassment finally stopped. SMH.
. 4y ago no talking in lunch, and if we talk the lights go out and you have to find your food in the dark- the took off that last part because people kept eating other peoples food by accident, and spilling many drinks
1BoiledCabbage 4y ago We got a detention slip for saying the word Fudge. It was a replacement word for Fuck and Goddamn It. The outrage came from the part where we were asked to say something else, other than swearing, so we did and still got in trouble for it.
bijouxthree . 4y ago I had a teacher who would punish anyone with detention if they threw rubbish at the bin. The only exception was if you you got it in and that was all good.
Sera0Sparrow 4y ago We had to Braid our hair, every single day.
AutumnAscending 4y ago No yoyos. One year everyone in school got this specific kind of yoyo and we would always have them out to the point they were banned. Also girls couldn't wear tank tops but boys could.
Positive-Source8205 4y ago No clackers. This was in the 1960s and we had these things called clackers, which were basically two solid tempered glass spheres on a string with a metal ring in the middle. The idea was to clack the two balls together really fast. Anyway, I don't know whether it was apocryphal, but some kid's clackers exploded and sent shards of glass into his face.
osrsgaming 4y ago We couldn't go to the bathroom in 4th grade because some people would shit on the floors. Like they banned the bathroom
uninc4life2010 . 4y ago 30 minutes of mandatory homework per class per day. This included PE classes. The principal was eventually forced to resign due to an overwhelming number of complaints from parents. I'm sure this was just one of many problems that he created.
KoopaTheTroopa583 . 4y ago Don't take pictures of peoples feet while they are in the stall... this has now lead to people getting expelled after posting on social media. While this is mostly justified and not necessarily outrageous. But quite unusual
Much_Committee_9355 + 4y ago No card games of any sort were allowed at my high school
torquemycork 4y ago If you're in the hallway except during passing period you have to be walking (aka moving your body and going somewhere). and all this did was prevent private conversations, and big art projects, and moved all the ne'er do wells into the bathrooms, which then led to us getting 5 minutes bathroom breaks If you didn't come back in 5 exactly they'd send a hall assistant aka a narc
NoLemonsForSale 4y ago Couple years back my catholic high school had a no headscarf/ Hijab rule allowed. My educated History teacher pointed out that it is very much so illegal. And they took it out of the rule book. So for the longest time, muslim girls who wore the hijab weren't allowed to come to the school if they wanted to keep on wearing it. She even said that she randomly brought up how muslim boys would come to the school but not many muslim girls. That's how she was told about the rule. All these years they could have
Effective_River2639 . 4y ago I know all schools have this but it's stupid you have to ask to use the bathroom. Thats so stupid that you have to ask to do a human thing. I'm from Russia and we didn't have to do that at my school. We could just get up and grab the pass of the wall and look at the teacher to show where you were going.
MikeTangoVictor . 4y ago Our principal banned dodgeball. An epic teacher created a new game called Proximity Awareness Ball and we continued. That teacher is a legend.
Bigbootyomoletlover 4y ago I'm from Quebec, the part of Canada that mainly speaks French therefore many things are in French. In class we'd be punished for speaking anything but French. I remember I said Ayayay and my teacher dragged me to the corner of the room and made me sit there crying in front of my classmates until the class was over. That woman did lots of other stupid, abusive bullshit to us to the point where we all cried of joy when the school year was over cause we wouldn't have to see her again. We were like six.
Mentalfloss1 4y ago This was LONG ago at a very rural school where there were cold, wet, snowy, winters. Girls weren't allowed to wear slacks/jeans unless the temperature in the morning was below freezing.
anotherzebramussel 4y ago No listening to secular music on campus, including on headphones. They would stop you in the courtyard and ask to see the tape/cd (this was before streaming). Note - no secular music included no classical music. Because we can't be sure that the composer was a Christian.
. 4y ago Banned Rubix Cubes and other things
Yanigan 4y ago All accessories had to be in the school uniform colours. Earrings could be plain studs, sleepers or crosses. No necklaces apart from crosses. Shoelaces had to be black. At one point they considered banning watches (this was long before smartwatches were even conceived) until someone pointed out that the students who left campus for free periods or lunch would have no way of knowing what time to return. So then watch bands had to be in school colours as well.
Robey2811 + 4y ago Silent lunch
egrith . 4y ago If someone attacks you, and you defend your self, you get expelled
Terroractly . 4y ago No bubble wands. Like what the he'll happened to specifically ban bubble wands? From what I remember, knives and other dangerous items weren't (explicitly) banned, but God forbid you have a bubble wand you absolute maniac
SilverLugia1992 . 4y ago The seniors had to get permission to do any senior pranks.
Prank_Owl 4y ago My middle school banned hoodies for a while because they were considered gang related articles of clothing. So dumb. It just led to a bunch of kids wearing them defiantly in order to look edgy to their peers. Yes, I was one of them. I thought I was such a fucking badass, lol.
