We’ve all fallen into the trap of meeting someone’s newborn baby. There’s an entire Seinfeld episode premised around having to see the baby. And as Jerry, Elaine, George and Kramer found out, it's rarely worth the trip. Even if the baby is perfectly fine as far as babies go, they don’t do anything but stare, spit up and cry, which isn’t very entertaining. 

But there are worse things than simply making a trip to meet a baby. You could make a trip to meet an ugly baby. 

It feels wrong to determine the attractiveness of a being that has its entire life to develop neuroses about its appearance, but we’ve all done it, and we all take comfort in the fact that they don’t know we’re doing it. In fact, they won’t know they were ugly until they become an adult, dig out some old family photos and say, “Wow, I was an ugly baby.” Then, when they’re at the grocery store or lunch with a friend, they’ll see someone else’s ugly baby and think, “That’s an ugly baby.” 

In short: There will always be ugly babies, and there will always be people who mentally comment on them.
