For Sherri Shepherd, imitation isn’t the sincerest form of flattery if it involves Tracy Morgan in a shake-and-go wig.
The former co-host of The View lamented Ego Nwodim’s recent departure from Saturday Night Live, and recalled that before Nwodim’s addition to the cast, there were no Black women available to parody Shepherd. Faced with the very real possibility that she will once again be played by Morgan in a bad wig, Shepherd sent out an SOS to Lorne Michaels: “So what do I say to SNL? Y’all gotta hurry up, and you gotta find somebody. This is a break glass in case of an emergency. It is an emergency.”
Relatedly, Zelda Williams sent out an emergency message of her own. “Please, just stop sending me AI videos of Dad,” Williams wrote in an Instagram Story, referencing the numerous clips she receives of her late father, Robin Williams. “To watch the legacies of real people be condensed down to ‘this vaguely looks and sounds like them so that’s enough’, just so other people can churn out horrible TikTok slop puppeteering them is maddening.”
