20 of the Most Expensive Things People Have Manhandled

It’s hard to truly wrap your head around just how much value exists out there in the world, and we’re not talking about the wonders of nature and purple mountains majesty or whatever. We’re talking cold, hard cash, but not just money. There are items — buildingsjewelry, etc. — so valuable that it would be legitimately hard for even the richest people in the world to scrounge up enough money to buy them.

We all know about these things — the Masjid al-Haram, the Kohinoor diamond, the love of a good woman, etc. — but very few of us will ever personally experience them, let alone get our grubby mitts on them. The most expensive things we’ve ever handled hold a special place in our hearts even if they’re not that expensive in the grand scheme of things. That’s why user bballboy699 asked r/AskReddit, “What is the most expensive item you have ever held in your hand?”

_Sigur_ 8y ago A solid gold bar in the Bank of England Museum in London. There's a challenge area where you can stick your hand in a glass box and through some steel bars to see if you can lift the gold. That stuff is seriously dense.
blue_jay_jay 8y ago I was charged with carrying a Dunlap Broadside (original copy of the Declaration of Independence) from its safe, across the street, to a museum. I was 90% sure I was going to be mugged right then and there. My boss asked me how it felt to hold $12 million in my hands. It's terrifying.

Steampunker683 8y ago $1.25 Million in diamonds. I was half of a two-man escort for a client from Burbank Airport the the Beverly Hilton. We just acted like a rich guy and his trophy wife with bodyguard and chauffeur. When we got to the suite he took a pouch from under his shirt and asked me if I wanted to hold a million dollars. So I did. It was a weird feeling. I thought they would be heavier. The buyer arrived and looked at the stones, made a phone call, put them in his pocket and left. My client told
thats_not_gravy 8y ago I work for an art museum that has what most consider a priceless collection. I've installed a number of new acquisitions in the galleries including a Picasso, pollock, multiple Warhols, a Rothko... the most valuable thing as around $80M. I've also danced with and/or hugged our founder on numerous occasions..so if that counts, then it'd be in the $30B range.
WZeddemore84 8y ago Richard Branson's hand. His net worth is in the billions. I doubt I'll ever hold anything as valuable again...or anything as soft, for that matter.
