The Grinch may be Christmas’ number one hater, but he clearly cared about child safety.
Behind the scenes of How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Jim Carrey nearly went crazy. Because of the intense makeup and prosthetics required to transform him into the titular character, Carrey underwent training with a CIA torture specialist to help him endure the eight-hour process of becoming the Grinch.
But despite all that, Jim Carrey treated child star Taylor Momsen, who played Cindy Lou Who, with nothing but kindness. Momsen has even recalled how gentle the Grinch was whenever her physical safety was at stake.
During an interview with Vulture for their oral history of the cult-classic Christmas comedy film, Momsen said that Carrey went above and beyond to be “protective” of her, and, when a sledding stunt went awry, he cut the take himself to make sure that she was okay.
Despite playing such a melodramatic, hateful character, Jim Carrey was nothing like him in real life. So maybe we could all learn a thing or two from him.
