32 Baby Names That Nurses Tried to Talk Parents Out Of

Preparing to bring a baby into the world is a fraught process, but no decision is as haunting or potentially damaging as choosing the wrong name for your child.

Thanks to the midwives and nurses of Reddit, quite a few people have narrowly avoided branding their child with a name that was sure to get them bullied. One of them, for example, recalled the time a pair of young goths wanted to name their child “Death.” Rather than arguing with them, she informed the couple that the system wouldn’t register it. With that little white lie, the Redditor successfully convinced the goths to name their sweet baby girl Morticia instead.

Other Redditors have offered up some of the almost-names they’ve heard from expectant parents, including Raider God, Vagina and Eggbert.

Seaside_Sarah 4y ago While I am neither a nurse or midwife, I can confirm that my mum wanted to call me Christa-Belle, while my Dad wanted to call me Devonshire (as in the English County) .....how the hell I ended up as Sarah, one of the dullest names known to mankind is a mystery - I am presuming a kind and sensible nurse stepped in to save me. | did however accidentally tell my school friends my 'almost name' was Darbyshire, and was then called Darby for years, to the extent that when we were collectively nicked for shoplifting none of the other
ezraburke 4y ago Wife is a midwife. She told me of one young lass she had in who insisted her newborn be called O'Shan. She asked for spelling and everything. Now, the young lass wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed, nor the most well-to-do but nevertheless the name seemed decent enough. Wife thought it might be a family name or something. When asked where it came from the young lady replied: What? It's not from anything. It's O'Shan. Just like the sea. Ocean? Yea, what I said. O'Shan. 35 ...

4y ago Aight so, this wasn't me, but my dad's friend. I cant remember when but | remember him telling me about his friend who worked as a nurse. She asked the couple what they had named the baby and the woman had said Penese, but the way she spelled it was p*nis. So the nurse trying to be polite told her that the name was inappropriate and was spelled p*enis, but the woman kept insisting that is was Penese and not p*nis. LozNewman 4y ago In France there used to be a list of names you had to choose from (mostly based on that day's name saint and 3-4 others). Which is why there were so many Jean / Marc / Louis /Phillipe / Marie / Anne / Valerie, etc in France. Now it's a free choice.... but anyone can ask a judge to cancel a name-choice and force the parent(s) to suggest one the judge finds acceptable. So no names like Соса- Cola, Xerox, Cocaine, Anal, Nutella, Sex Fruit, Devil, Blue Murder... PLUS the rejected name gets added to a banned list to streamline the rejection in the future. 2.3K
