Needless to say, South Park has changed an incredible number of things over the years — comedy, animation, the concept of character resurrection. But the real world, they say, is often stranger than fiction, and Matt Stone and Trey Parker’s animated masterpiece has countless weird noodles squirming around behind the scenes.

Can you imagine South Park without Kyle? No? Well, you might be surprised to learn that the character was almost killed at the end of Season Five. Did you know that Butters is not only a real person, but a producer on the show? Yep. Below are even more behind-the-scenes facts and Easter eggs from the Comedy Central classic…

EASTER EGGSTRA South Park Damien Thorn is a homage to The Omen. He shares the name of the character in the 1976 horror movie.
