Springfield, say goodbye to legendary showrunner Al Jean… for now?
After 35 years, Jean can safely confirm that he is “not the person that ended the success of The Simpsons.” The longtime showrunner is officially stepping back and letting others, like Matt Selman, handle the weekly chaos.
Sunday’s episode, “Bad Boy… For Life?”, marks Jean’s final turn as a showrunner and serves as a tribute to the father-son relationship. It’s an idea he’s been sitting on for years, closing a chapter in his career, but definitely “not a closure for the series.”
Jean noted that though this is the end for him as a showrunner, The Simpsons’ impact on his life has been remarkable, and a place he feels at home.
“When things in the external world don't always go the way you want, it's been wonderful to have this show and the people on it you can come and talk with. It's kind of a place to go that you feel at home and that's always been true since Mike and I started in 1989.”
Of course, people on Twitter never run out of creativity and always keep the timeline entertaining. Today’s funniest tweets include how trust issues are formed, getting banned from the calculator app, and the instant regret that comes after oversharing.
