Pennywise is back in the HBO series It: Welcome to Derry, where he once again torments kids, this time in the 1960s.
We all know that clowns are more terrifying than funny, but while Pennywise may chase children, he also delivers some dark comedy in the new series. Jason Fuchs serves as the showrunner of It: Welcome to Derry after previously contributing to It Chapter II.
In an interview conducted by Brian VanHooker, Fuchs described Stephen’s King clown as “despicable and mean-spirited and cruel, but he has a sick sense of humor in the same way that characters like the Joker and Harley Quinn do.” He also revealed that some of the inspiration came from his years working at DC.
According to Fuchs “fans love these villains because they are funny in a dark, inappropriate, awful way.” However, introducing comedy into horror scenes can be tricky. “From a writing perspective, the comedic moments in horror really do unlock something in the audience emotionally. When you're laughing, you're invested. When you're laughing, you're connected. So, in a weird way, you're asking the audience to be vulnerable, and then you are taking advantage of that vulnerability as a storyteller.”
After so many years, people are still obsessed with the worlds Stephen King created, and this new It series is just another confirmation of that.
People on Twitter always mix daily horror news with some insightful jokes. Today’s funniest tweets include a 1,500-year-old Maya ceramic figurine, a calculator that needs time to think, and a new bizarre abbreviation for Lego Batman.
