When a woman gets the news that she’s pregnant, there are a handful of reactions that people generally expect. If they were trying to get pregnant, joy and excitement usually comes with the news. If they weren’t trying and didn’t want a kid right now, it could be depression or anger. All around, shock is a pretty common option, too. However, not many people react to pregnancy news with a simple high-five.

Yet, that’s the reaction one Redditor described in a thread asking for the most outrageous reactions doctors have gotten to the news that someone is pregnant. As the Redditor explained, his wife wasn’t all that familiar with her doctor, so when she got the news, the couple shared a measured high-five. “We didn’t really want to have an emotional moment in front of a complete stranger,” the husband explained.

dmazzoni 12y ago My grandmother worked for the medical clinic at her local army base during WWII, and she sometimes got to deliver the news that a woman (usually the wife of a soldier) was pregnant. She told one young woman, who replied, but that's impossible! My husband has been overseas for more than a year! My grandmother assured her that she was definitely pregnant, and asked if she had had sexual relations with anyone else recently. The woman replied, well, yes! But...you can't get pregnant with nobody but your husband! The poor girl actually had no idea.
VicodinSnacks 12y ago I went to the emergency room for an emergency and as | was waiting for nurse to come into my room there were other women in the rooms around me. They asked for a urine sample because they have to check for pregnancy prior to surgery. The nurse just walked in looked at me and said is this the pregnant one? | sat there having a silent panic attack (I couldn't move or speak and my mind was screaming nonono) nurse looks at the chart again and goes wrong room and leaves. No apologies.
osusurgery 12y ago Had to cancel a woman in Preop because her preg test came back positive. | told her I have good new and bad news. The bad news is, we can't do your surgery today. The good news is....your pregnant! Her response was doc, neither of those is good news.
love_n_other_crap 12y ago | went with my friend once to the ER because she was having issues. I offered to step out of the room when the doctor came back in, but was told to sit tight. Okay, fine, whatever. Doctor tells her she is pregnant (after she denies even having sex, ever.) She says, That's impossible! My boyfriend and | only did it once and he pulled out! Doctor had to explain to her how that's not safe, at all, while I sat in the chair with my face in my palms.

12y ago ED nurse here. Lady comes in saying she's pregnant, but she has vaginal bleeding. Pregnancy test comes back negative. Doc asks her why she thought she was pregnant. She says, I was having cravings for chocolate ice cream, and the last time that happened was when I was pregnant. Not exactly what you asked for, but thought I'd share just the same.

To make this not such a waste of comment, I'll reference one of the best ways I've heard of a parent finding out the daughter was preggo: Target sends people coupons based on their purchases with their Target card. A father filed a complaint with his local store for coupons that were sent to his young daughter for prenatal vitamins, lotions, etc. It turned out she was pregnant, but she was hiding it from daddy. cvlrymedic . 12y ago We found out my wife was pregnant when she got trampled by a horse. They wanted to do a pelvic X-ray and had her take a pregnancy test. The nurse came back with a terrified look on her face and awkwardly told us she was pregnant. My biggest concern at the time was the X-ray and | asked immediately about that. shmeggt 12y ago My wife took a pregnancy test at home, and we were super-excited that it was positive. We had a little emotional moment at home by ourselves. We went to see her doc a couple days later to have the official test. My wife doesn't know her doc well (she had only seen her once or twice before), and obviously I had never met the woman before. Turns out, she was in labor an never knew she was pregnant. She insisted that she just hasn't had be period for 9 months because of some thyroid condition. It boggles my mind that she didn't know. shieldniffler 12y ago My grandma has a pretty great story. After trying for years to get pregnant, she was told she could not conceive. So my grandparents adopt two kids (including my dad). A few years pass and ВАМ... miracle pregnancy. Well, they had always wanted FOUR kids so they decide to adopt one more. Couple more years pass... ВАМ. ВАМ. Got pregnant two more times. And that is the story of why I have a mexican uncle and 12 cousins on one very white side of my family.
