Disgraced Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling’s bad takes aren’t limited to her TERF views — they also apply to her taste in comedians. In a newly-unearthed interview with filmmaker Chris Columbus, the Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone director revealed that Robin Williams was repeatedly denied roles in the franchise thanks to a strict rule enacted by the author. “No American actors in this film,” Columbus recalled of Rowling’s decree. “It’s all British. There’s nothing I could do.”
Kids in the Hall icon Kevin McDonald also has experience with star-studded rejection. McDonald opened up about his guest-starring role in Seinfeld’s “The Strike,” recalling how Jerry Seinfeld spectacularly shot down his suggested re-write upon realizing a scripted joke wasn’t working. “It was like a Western movie, where someone walks into a saloon and everyone goes quiet,” the Canadian icon told The A.V. Club back in 2010 of the “stunned silence” that followed his pitch. “Then Jerry Seinfeld turned and looked at me and said, ‘Noooo.’”
