If the abuse allegations, his marriage to Mia Farrow’s adopted daughter, and the monstrosity that was 2017’s Wonder Wheel somehow weren’t enough to sour your view of Woody Allen, the disgraced filmmaker has found himself in the hot seat yet again — this time, for “humiliating” a teenage Twiggy during her 1967 trip to New York City.
In a new documentary detailing her life in the limelight, Twiggy — also known as Dame Lesley Lawson — discussed her infamous sit-down with the director, in which Allen — then 31 — started grilling the 17-year-old model on her favorite philosophers while refusing to name any of his own. “It was horrible,” she recalled of the ordeal, noting that she “just didn’t want to cry” during the interview.
Where Allen apparently reveled in interrogating a young girl on national television, TV host Johnny Carson wanted to steer clear of on-screen controversy. In a newly-unearthed 60 Minutes interview, Carson told host Mike Wallace that there’s a “real danger” in broaching serious topics on a late-night show, adding “You could sway people, and I don’t think you should as an entertainer.”
Thankfully, the entertainers of Twitter are logged on and ready to tackle any topic. Today’s funniest tweets include how it feels to be a laptop, a reason to stay home, and a new way to celebrate Lent.
