34 of the Funniest Commissions Received by Artists
Historically, weird art was commissioned by people who had more money than they knew what to do with — that’s how Leonardo da Vinci ended up painting a portrait of an Italian mistress holding a weasel.
And while today’s elites are more concerned with killing art than commissioning it, the tradition of having artists use their talents for bizarre reasons is alive and well among the rest of us. An artist on Reddit can definitely attest to this. They were asked to draw a “reverse mermaid.” Though this sounds like it describes a fish with human legs or a human with a fish head, the request was much more godless. According to the client’s specifications, a “reverse mermaid” is “a fish with tits and legs.” The artist obliged, and the unspeakable creature still swims around their subconscious — gills, double Ds and all.
Other artists are haunted and intrigued by their past commissions as well, which include those involving Mpreg Squidward, an udderly wild fox and an animated Illuminati task force.
