24 Out-of-Touch Things Said by Rich People

There are times when someone says something so woefully out-of-touch that you start fantasizing about cartoonishly violent things happening to them. Case in point: One Redditor was in the lunchroom at work, eating canned spaghetti, when a wealthy doctor said, “I don’t know how anyone survives on less than $40,000.” This, of course, was said to a room full of people who made less than $40,000. Our dear Redditor should’ve put that doctor in a Chef Boyardee Saw trap.

Shockingly, this isn’t the most egregious time a high-paid professional had no idea how life really works, and Redditors have the receipts to prove it — including one housing manager who thought raw sewage leaking into a living room was perfectly fine.

addrien 3y ago So I work in an art gallery. The director and I were discussing an artist who paints abstract portraits of women with sorrowful expression. The director doesn't like the paintings and was confused by the subject. I tried to explain that the artist was representing the suffering of woman kind in our society. The most out of touch thing I ever heard was the director saying what suffering? I'm a woman and I'm fine. I spent the next twenty minutes trying to explain discrimination, rape, and oppression woman face ... To a woman. 108 ...
Princess_Coldheart 5mo ago Back when I was in my early 20's my beat up old car broke down in my job's parking lot when I was about to drive home. I was getting paid $10 an hour as a pastry chef at a catering company. This was barely enough to cover my rent. I was obviously pretty distraught over my car dying. My boss (company owner) ended up saying to me- 'Why are you so upset? It's just a car! Just buy another one! I couldn't even respond, I just looked at her like she was crazy. + 8.2K Reply
Trappist_1984 5mo ago - Edited 5mo ago While working for a valet parking service in the Santa Barbara area years ago, a woman hired us for a jewelry showing she was having at her giant house in Montecito, and while we were waiting for guests to arrive, my boss informed me that when the guests get in their cars to leave, that I needed to be sure to close their car doors or else they would just drive off with their doors open. As they're so used to people closing their car doors for them. + 10K Reply ...
DudebroggieHouser 5mo ago 1 Edited 5mo ago I'm a type 1 diabetic and medical costs are insane without insurance. This happened in 2012, when the ACA bill was going through congress. My boss was against it, and I told him how getting on insurance would help me. Не grimaced and said, That is YOUR responsibility. You should get a job! I worked for him and he made sure to not provide benefits for the employees. 719 Reply ...
lanakers 3y ago I had an old supervisor suggest that I lease a car now that I had a job. This was before I overheard her telling the assistant controller lanakers has a job now, she can afford to get a new car. She also referred to her mother's aide as the help. She was the worst supervisor I ever had. 119 ...

nikkipickle 3y ago My old boss wanted to hire me for a personal freelance project to help out his girlfriend's business, and we were discussing rate. Не said I'm not as rich as I used to be when trying to haggle me down on my rate. I was relying on government funded health care at the time. Fucking wanker. Never again. 412 ...

Wursti96 3y ago My boss told me that the leasing of our company car is ending and I could buy it for really cheap if I want it. Really cheap meant 20.000€ for him. Не pays me 750€ a month (im still in training thats why its so little) and I live on my own and have a car, so basically I'd have to work about 2 years for this really cheap car without spending a cent on anything. + 2.4K ...
candy_15 3y ago My dad just died about a month ago. My company gave me 4 days unpaid off. I was really close to my father so this was hard for me to deal with. My pay cheque was enough to pay bills, but I had to buy my groceries on credit card to get by. My bosses brother in law died the following week. All he talks about is how hard this is on his wife. Between the stress of her brother dying, and the reno on there million dollar cabin he's taking his whole family to Hawaii for

bebop_cola_good 3y ago During a break room discussion on how one of my co-workers was having to go on food stamps because the job didn't pay enough, the new CEO who for the first (and last) time decided to have lunch in the break room, dropped this gem: Yeah, I know what you mean. We had to let our second nanny go. + 934 ...
agingcatmom 1y ago Edited 1y ago 0 My former landlord and his wife dropped by to tell me and my financially struggling 20-something roommates that they were raising the rent, by nearly 25%. They said, We noticed on Craigslist that neighbors had higher rent so we're doing the same. The wife then earnestly reminded us that we've been great tenants but maybe we just needed to find some higher paying jobs.

malemember87 4mo ago My son's teacher said to him recently the one about never having a calculator with you all the time. When I was at school, mobile phones amongst kids were starting to become a thing with Nokia 3310 type models. So even in my day it was pushing it. I do recognise that it's still important to know how to do maths without a calculator though even if the saying itself is out of date. + 261 Reply ...
pastelchannl 1y ago when people were complaining about not being able to afford housing/food/living in general, one of the Dutch ministers (I think he was a minister or at least the leader of a party) said something along the line of 'well, find a rich boyfriend then'. ah, yes, that will solve the crisis! + 8.5K ...
pjsans 1y ago My dad (who is now the Director of Accounting for the school district I teach for) was talking about how my starting pay was way more than his starting pay. I said, well, yeah...
