26 Cool ‘Went Looking for Copper and Found Gold’ Moments

These days, you take your wins where you can get ‘em. One Redditor remembers the time he ran into an old flame he’d lost contact with. They chatted at the bar until last call. She’d wanted one last beer but couldn’t get it. So one night after his shift, he drove past her house and saw her lights on, and decided to take her that one last beer. She introduced him to her boyfriend, and they hit it off right away. In fact, her boyfriend ended up being the best man at his wedding, and they’re still close to this day.

Not the ending you were expecting, but surely not the one he expected either.

These are the kinds of stories Redditors came forward with when they recalled the times they “went looking for copper and found gold,” proving that a win is a win, no matter how small.

PunkinPlayer 4y ago I was stuck in reception at a military base for a month (much longer than normal) and wanted to make a friend. Saw a sergeant who worked there who never smiled and I decided to try being friends because he looked grumpy. Just friends, no other motives... and yet, 2 years later, we're approaching our 1 year anniversary and have a baby on the way. Despite the RBF he had, he turned out to be the sweetest person I've ever met. Definitely found gold. 8 ...

tehKreator 4y ago Roadtrip from Montreal to Vermont Burlington with some friends, listening to music. I called out randomly that the next song on the iPod shuffle (out of 7800 songs) would be the song Old Man and it focken was (random guess) so my friends and I went to buy 50$ of lottery tickets. We won some other money so we bought more tickets then the last one was a 500$ win. We reimbursed the whole road trip because of that and more random shit and it was the most epic moment of my life. 98 ...
4y ago Forced to clean the storage area at my job, promised some extra pay and maybe some stuff the store won't sell. Whoever did inventory was shit at it, went home with 5 boxes full of unopened toys, ranging from small Lego sets, transformers and Babies. Had probably about a hundred of these toys. Gave it away to relatives. + 221 ...
warrior_waffle 4y ago Years ago, when I was 15, I went to a yard sale and they had a large bag full of various console and pc games, the lady running it said that she'd sell me the whole bag for $10, if I took them right then and there before her son got home, so I bought them, took them to my local game store and traded them in for $200 in store credit. 22 ...

filmorebuttz 4y ago Went to bed bath and beyond to go Christmas shopping. They had an adoptathon there, all small dogs. I don't like small dogs but I liked dogs so I went up to pet them. This brown dog full of so much energy jumped up and put her two front paws on my shoulders and I scratched her lower back while she was doing that. She ended up grabbing me with those paws and it was like the dog was giving me a hug. Long story short. She's no 6 and I will John Wick any motherfucker that
ThadisJones 4y ago The company upstairs from my nonprofit was bought out three years ago, they had to relocate, and were leaving a lot of unwanted stuff behind. I thought it would be mostly junk, but I scored two decent desktop PCs (with no HDs), a Xerox color laser printer (the kind that uses the crayons), and a super great office chair for my office. Plus a few reference books on things like Unix, networking, and SQL. Why not take all this stuff with them? I dunno, venture capitalism is weird. 364 ...
BoothWilkesJohn e 4y ago When I was starting grad school, I went to the learning center to find work study as a tutor. A woman overhead my conversation and offered me a job as the technical editor for an academic journal. After I graduated and couldn't find work in my field (history), I became an editor. 631 ...
4y ago I married a kind and wonderful man. 7 years in, she tells me that she's a trans woman. Her transition has taken the most wonderful person I know and made her happier, more fun, and she's like a 20/10 hotness. I came looking for copper, but damn my wife is fucking platinum. 345 ...
mynameisscurvy 4y ago I was recently homeless and staying in a shelter and desperate for a job. Applied for one for which I wasn't really qualified. Nailed the interview, they asked for my salary requirement. I asked for $25 an hour. They countered with $26. Then they bumped it up to $28 after 3 months. I would've been happy with copper: this feels like 24 karat gold 326 ...

PyroCapillum 4y ago . Edited 4y ago I was in English years ago in 7th grade and I wanted to be funny and get a few people to laugh, so I made a stupid pun (funny to me at the time). Rather than a few people laughing, only one person did, BUT that person became one of my best friends to this day because of that and if that's not gold then idk what is.
radiobrat78 4y ago Had tried to get back together with an ex gf, no go. Too many factors to overcome, wasn't gonna happen. Thought she was IT, but apparently not. Spent about an hour in the car on the way home fuming to a friend, swearing off dating and women for a while. Walking up the stairs to my apartment, I see the door to a lady who had moved in recently. Thought to myself she seems nice, why don't you invite her in for a movie or just a friendly hang. We celebrate 4 years married in a month,

RenoMillenial 4y ago I used to be a recruiter at a staffing agency. We had a major call center to staff and I asked one of my recent pending hires for referrals from her current call center because they paid shit wages and I'm assuming they'd be interested in leaving. She put my business cards in their break room with no shame. By the end of the month I'd stolen 15 employees and almost put her former employer out of business. I looked like a rockstar at work and got all those people a $3.50 raise. Good times. + 8.9K
Wisebutt98 4y ago I ran into a woman I'd dated but lost contact with at a bar one night. We talked until last call, and she wanted another beer but couldn't get one. I worked graveyard shift, and drive by her house on my way to work. Saw her lights on, stopped to give her that beer she didn't get. She introduced me to her boyfriend who was there.
