Two of comedy's brightest new stars are joining forces for what’s all but guaranteed to be a sensation. Emmy winner Quinta Brunson and Oscar nominee Stephanie Hsu are set to star in Par for the Course, a new film from Universal Pictures. While plot details are under wraps, the script was co-written by Brunson and fellow Abbott Elementary writer Justin Tan, who will also serve as the comedy’s director.
Whatever Par for the Course is about, Brunson and Hsu will likely have much more success together than Harold and his purple crayon. Sony’s adaptation of the beloved children’s book starring Zachary Levi only managed to scrounge up $9 million in its opening weekend, not even beating out Inside Out 2, which is in its eighth week of theatrical release. As the Pixar sequel and Deadpool & Wolverine continue to break records, Harold and the Purple Crayon holds a record of its own — one of the lowest opening weekend’s of 2024. At least Levi can probably bank on a Razzie nomination.
Meanwhile, a new week gives way to some new tweets that definitely aren’t flopping. Today’s funniest include those about the stock market that is sizzling hot, an Olympics post-credits teaser and a world full of too many situations.
