Casa Bonita workers are on strike.
Performers for the novelty eatery say that despite repeated attempts to bargain with management for a living wage, the restaurant isn’t interested in negotiating. “Casa management came to the table today offering an additional 11 cents over their last unfair wage offer, and very little for future layoff protections,” lead negotiator Andrea Hoeschen explained. “Despite that insult, the negotiating team responded with major compromises to try to get a deal. And then Casa Bonita walked away from the table without responding.”
Given these mounting labor disputes and complaints from workers about “retaliatory” business practices, performers for the Colorado eatery are encouraging patrons to show their support by joining them on the picket lines this Halloween.
In Chicago, a different show of support is happening. Nathan Griffin, manager of the local outpost of The Laugh Factory, helped protect a man that Border Patrol was attempting to detain. Griffin was arrested and faces charges of assaulting a Border Patrol agent, prompting the neighborhood to support the club manager with funds to help pay for his legal defense.
Over on Twitter, people are keeping the laughs coming. Today’s funniest tweets include those about talking to older coworkers, a Letterboxd loser and a Halloween muse.
