Eugene Levy has sported two left shoes and a fake goatee in pursuit of comedy, but he wouldn’t wax his chest for Godspell.
In the new documentary You Had to Be There: How the Toronto Godspell Ignited the Comedy Revolution, Spread Love & Overalls and Created a Community That Changed the World (In a Canadian Kind of Way), Levy said he refused to remove any of his body hair while playing Jesus, despite the director’s concerns that his fuzzy, shirtless chest would “scare the kids at the matinee.”
“No, I’m not waxing any hair off my body,” Levy told the director, adding that he ultimately agreed to wear a tank top for the scene instead.
Meanwhile, John Oliver refused to mince words about Jimmy Kimmel’s abrupt removal from ABC’s late-night lineup, and offered a stark warning for Disney CEO Bob Iger during Sunday’s episode of Last Week Tonight. “History is also going to remember the cowards who definitely knew better but still let things happen, whether it was for money, convenience or just comfort,” Oliver said in a plea to the network exec.
