After years of publicly beefing with Sesame Street’s resident pet rock, Rocco, Elmo has found a new foe, teaching audiences that D stands for “Diss Track” with his brand new song taking aim at President Donald Trump.
On Wednesday, the creative team at The Late Show with Stephen Colbert imagined what the beloved Sesame Street staple would have to say about the Trump administration’s proposed PBS funding cuts if he weren’t a perpetually 3½-year-old monster, revamping a TV performance of his certified banger, “Elmo’s Song,” with some relevant new NSFD (not safe for Dorothy) lyrics. “Trump’s threatening our funds, has two stupid sons, Elmo’s pissed,” he kicked off the song, one brought to us by the number one — in this case, a blurred out red, fuzzy middle finger.
While Elmo and the rest of his Sesame Street pals stress over 47’s threats to PBS, another famous redhead is picking her battles when it comes to TV. Pop singer Chappell Roan recently dropped by Bowen Yang’s Las Culturistas podcast, where she revealed not only that she “wasn’t even mad” over the actor’s controversial Moo Deng-themed lampoon of her last fall, but that she wishes her fans weren’t so “H-O-T-T-O-G-O” at others over the supposedly offensive Saturday Night Live sketch. “People don’t have to get mad on my behalf,” the artist explained, asking what there even was “to be mad about.” “This is what happens, that is SNL.”
With Roan’s blessing, you could go back and rewatch that Weekend Update segment, but why pull up YouTube — or worse, Peacock — when you have all of the day’s funniest tweets right here? Today’s best poke fun at Polish statistics, lobster-related marital bliss and anyone who bought tickets to Fyre Festival 2.
