Robin Williams may be remembered as a beloved comedian, an Oscar-winning actor and a defining figure of most ‘90s kids' childhoods, but to fellow funny man Damon Wayans, the actor has a different legacy: that of “a notorious thief.” During a recent appearance on the Club Shay Shay podcast, the In Living Color star opened up about Williams’ reputation in the comedy scene, revealing that the late actor’s stand-up sets were as funny as they were occasionally borrowed from other comics.
“Robin was all stream of consciousness, and he would steal material,” Wayans explained, detailing how Williams’ manager would “walk around with a checkbook” offering ripped-off comics $75 payments for their troubles. This bribery apparently only got them so far. “Comedians would go, ‘I’m not going on ‘cause Robin’s here,’” Wayans continued.
The ongoing tensions between the U.S. and Canada have also caused a rift in the world of stand-up comedy, leaving Jay Leno to consider bailing on his North-of-the-border tour dates. “I’m embarrassed when I go (to Canada now),” Leno explained on the brioux.tv podcast, citing President Donald Trump’s “rude and disrespectful” attitude toward our northern neighbors. “I try to be the nice American. I try to be as polite as I can. And when I meet Canadian people here, I always say, ‘Hey, I apologize.’”
Thankfully, these hilarious tweets require no apology. Today’s funniest include those about whale weddings, platonic dry humping and the origins of “damn, that’s crazy.”
