The timeline has been a bloodbath since a new batch of Oscar nominations was announced on Thursday morning, but while fans argued over the performers who were snubbed or who rightfully earned their nominations, one big Oscars tradition was quickly muted. Earlier in the week, the Academy revealed that this year’s ceremony will break from tradition and forgo performances from the five Best Original Song nominees. Instead of watching Elton John sing the title track from his Disney+ documentary, viewers will be offered a behind-the-scenes glimpse at the process behind the creation of these songs. Some were upset by this decision. One Twitter user, however, said that if it means “not having to listen to those Emilia Perez songs again, then by all means.”
But being grateful to avoid a pitchy performance from Selena Gomez wasn’t the only brutal dig on the timeline this week. Other digital burn victims include evil Bam Margera, an elderly driver and an emoji that isn’t locked in.
