51 of the Funniest Tweets from the Week of December 23, 2024
It’s the holiday season, and as expected, families everywhere are firing up Home Alone on their Roku TVs. Many people know the Christmas classic inside and out, but there are still new tidbits about the film being revealed nearly 40 years after its release — like the fact that Chris Farley blew his shot to appear in the movie. Director Chris Columbus recently confirmed that the then-rising star auditioned for the role of Santa Claus, but showed up at 7 a.m. after an all-nighter. While Farley didn’t get the gig, Columbus did recall him being “the sweetest guy in the world,” aside from some of his catcalling.
Elsewhere, Chevy Chase is proving that the spirit of the Grinch is alive and well. Jason Reitman joined Dana Carvey and David Spade on their Fly on the Wall podcast to talk all things Saturday Night. The SNL alum told Reitman that he captured the “crazy, chaotic spirit” of the show perfectly, but Chase apparently thought differently. Reitman revealed that after a screening of the film, Chase approached the director and remarked, “Well, you should be embarrassed,” with a pat on the shoulder. It’s a move that Spade called “an exact Chevy thing” to do.
Meanwhile, it appears that David Zaslav isn’t the only Scrooge in Hollywood. Paramount+ is removing a new batch of Nickelodeon titles from its library, including ‘90s staple Doug, a Blue’s Clues spin-off and a pair of shows adapted from Kung Fu Panda and Madagascar. This isn’t the first time the streamer has cleaned house either. They made headlines last year following the abrupt disappearance of the Emmy-winning series Inside Amy Schumer. It begs the question: Is the future of television really streaming?
The timeline, of course, was as bountiful as ever this week. This week’s funniest tweets included those about the perfect plot for an Equalizer sequel, a great drag name and a fully-baked lifehack.
