35 Embarrassing Times Someone’s Parents Asked to Speak to the Manager

There’s nothing wrong with asking for the manager; sometimes you just gotta get the Big Dog™ to handle things. Take, for example, one Redditor’s mom, who demanded to speak to a higher-up at Golden Corral after becoming convinced that the buffet was pouring their own cheap sauce into A.1. bottles and passing it off as the real deal. While any sane person would either calmly point out the discrepancy or never even mention it, she was insistent on leading the charge against this sauce-swapping operation.

She became so impassioned, in fact, that she poured the sauces side-by-side and licked the plate in front of everyone to prove her point. Though she was vindicated in the end — and showed everyone what a real A.1. lover looks like — the Great Steak Sauce Fraud of ‘06 scarred her kids for life.

Of course, they’re not alone. Reddit is basically a support group for Children of Parents Who Have Embarrassingly Asked for the Manager, and they’ve all come forward to share their personal experiences, which include everything from a father committing burger patty assault to a dad with serious sausage roll standards.

beetjuicex3 6y ago Once when I was maybe 6 I got a parakeet from a small family owned pet store. Maybe two days later it died. My mom put it in a paper bag and we drove over, but when we got there but it had been closed for about half an hour. My mom started banging on the glass door yelling DEAD BIRD until someone unlocked the door. I could not look that store owner in the eye as I got a new parakeet. The worst part was my mom mentioned it to an employee almost everytime we came
exquisiteadriane 6y ago . I was at the mall with my mom and she told my brother to get her a latte. My mom had a sip then marched to the food court and complained to the employee what type of shit is this in Spanish. Then my brother timidly told her he didn't get the coffee from this location Lmao 18 ...
6y ago My dad was always running late and very frantic and upset when I was growing up. One evening, on our way somewhere, he ordered a bunch of food at a fast food drive thru window asking that his burger not have mayonnaise on it. As he began to roll forward he quickly checked and realized they had put EXTRA mayonnaise on it. This prompted my dad to speed devilishly around the fast food joint pull back through the drive thru and hurl the burger SPLAT! at the closed drive thru while cursing their incompetence. As an 8
smokiefish 6y ago Edited 6y ago We were out to lunch as a family (no where fancy, average entrees were $15-30) and my mom ordered soup. Her soup was pretty warm but not scalding hot. She told the waiter it was unacceptable and demanded another bowl. The next bowl still wasn't hot enough to burn off her tongue apparently so she demanded to speak to the manager. Не came over to our table and my mom just went off on how terrible the experience was. We were sitting in the middle of the restaurant and everyone's eyes were on her
Xerocat 7y ago My dad's always been a bad influence on well.. everyone; but one day when I was 13 my Minecraft disc got scratched and was unreadable. So, we went to GameStop with the express purpose of just getting the copy returned, but we were over the warranty by 4 days. My dad threw the disc at the cashier and stormed out (without getting me a new copy, I may add) Yeah, there's a reason I've booked a one-way flight 6,600 miles away from that guy + 5 ...
Nightthunder 6y ago My dad started throwing a huge fit at movie theater snack prices, which, to be fair, were utterly ridiculous. It was $6 for a bottle of water. So yeah, you can rage at that, but don't shout down the 15 year old cashier who I can almost guarantee has 0 control over the pricing. If she did she would probably lower it so she would get shouted at less 169 ...
FuriousFetus98 6y ago Once my mum and I were at an awesome Chinese place. They had the best pork buns. So I was sitting there eating my pork bun and then the restaurant owner comes up to ask if we would like anything else. Me being about 7, pointed to the kid's drink menu at a drink called the fire truck that sounded like an absolutely amazing drink. We ordered that and I kept eating my pork bun. When the drink arrived, it was a bright orange Fanta with lemonade and ice cream drink. My mum was shocked, she asked
scoby-dew . 6y ago . Edited 6y ago My mother ranting to all and sundry she was going to get the brand-new Wal-Mart Supercenter in our town shut down because a cashier closed her register as we were walking up. Apparently she could do this because she Knew people on the internet. It was 1998. 14-year-old-me was mortified. 113 ...
DateEgamer 6y ago Edited 6y ago Well when I was 10, my mom got a phone for Christmas, and it had a warranty on it. A little later my mother threw It on the ground and called the company asking for a full refund plus a new phone becuase they gave me a broken one. After a few weeks, a company staff came to our house and asked my mum what happened. She said the the phone you sold us was broken and that I was heartbroken. Не gave us a refund but not another phone. My mum started yelling
ind_4 7y ago A couple of years ago my phone broke and my dad was taking me to Walmart to get a new one. Got there, and turns out their phone section had been bought out by a company or something and it would be reopened for another couple of months. Whatever, no big deal to me, we could just go to a phone store in the mall. NOPE. my dad throws my broken phone on the floor and starts stomping on it telling these people what a 'crock of shit' their store is, and they should have it very
SBCeagles59 7y ago I was at an Applebee's with my grandma on like my 12th birthday. Her and my aunt were just nonstop complaining about how cold their salads were and how it was taking ridiculously long. She ended up pounding on the table, DEMANDING she speak to somebody like she was fucking two. This was in a busy, crowded restaurant and some poor girl who was already busy had to stop all she was doing and speak with my grandma. She then started saying how the salad was so shitty and made a big scene. She couldn't get a
UkuCat 7y ago My dad got escorted out of a mall by security and banned from the entire mall for making a sales assistant cry after shouting/screaming at her for about 30 minutes because they wouldn't fix my water damaged phone. He's an asshole who think's rules/policies don't apply to him and that being aggressive and demanding will get him what he wants. I cut off contact with him a few years ago. + 37 ...
illini02 6y ago I was young and my mom and step dad took us to McDonalds. Somehow a nail or something got stuck in the tire which caused a flat. I'm not sure if it happened in the lot or not, but they were convinced it was. They went to talk to the manager. I don't remember exactly what their demands were, but they didn't get them. They literally went into the street waving people away saying that they were closed because they were mad. It just seemed like a ridiculously excessive thing to do. + 340 ...
6y ago My mom came to my school because she thought I was lying about what I got on my SATs. She didn't think I was that smart. No one in my school would give her that information because they didn't have to. She got to my principal and said, I want to speak to your manager in front of me. Не refused and they argued for a while. The principal knew I was an okay guy and the score I told my mother was legit. It was really embarrassing though. + 329 ...
7y ago Really cute little asian fusion place. Extremely sweet waitstaff. Dad didn't like the shrimp shumai, and proceeded to make really exaggerated faces of disgust, loud comments about how it's horrible while people were sitting all around us, etc. The sweet waitress who barely spoke english asked how it was, and my dad said Oh, not good. Not good at all. Is there a manager here? Or someone from the kitchen staff? Cue immense sadness and embarrassment. Let them be, it's just shrimp fucking shumai. + 65 ...
electrelephant 7y ago one day i went to brunch with my family and my dad recommended we all go wash our hands and i was like ill stay here so they dont give our table away cause we had been waiting for like an hour, and he says they wont give it away, don't worry. I said ok, i know they will but lets see what happens. surprise, they did. Не fucking goes to the hostess and berates her for giving our table away. dude we all walked away from it what the fuck did you think was going to
snopal 6y ago Not my parent but grandparent. When I was around 10 years old my grandmother went out and got us (her, my brother, and me) McDonald's. We got home and we didn't have napkins in the bags. No big deal, right? We have paper towels and napkins in the house, also me and my brother are pretty good with not making any messes while we eat. Nope. Grandmother got us in the car, drove back to McDonald's, demanded a manager, and screeched about how upset she was that we didn't get any napkins. I wanted to just melt
cok3noic3 6y ago Ugh, my dad. Не can be such a prick if you get his order wrong, it could be fast food or a nice sit down restaurant. Не often yells at wait staff if they undercook his steak. It has to be well done or he claims to have lost his appetite. One time we went to Burger King when I was younger and we sat down to eat. Не took one bite of his burger, spit it out and immediately started bitching about it being under cooked. Не cut in front of everyone in line to yell
QuickWittedSlowpoke 6y ago My mom once called Domino's regional corporate office or some shit because a pizza I ordered for her, THAT I PAID FOR, was too expensive. She did get 4 free pizza vouchers out of it but I'm so glad I was not around for the embarrassment of it all (I ordered it online from my job in the next state. Why? Because she wanted pizza + 564 ...
DisloyalMouse 7y ago I remember we went out for dinner for my 14th birthday. My mom was not happy about the speed of the service (we did have to wait a long time for both our order to be taken and food to arrive). When the good came there was some problem with one of the meals (I think it might've been mine, but I can't remember exactly what it was - probably I'd asked for it without something and they'd forgotten - but it was the sort of thing that you could easily let slide). Instead my mom complained to the poor waitress
THE_LANDLAWD 7y ago We went through the drive-thru at taco Bell. I asked for 3 soft tacos, no lettuce. When Mom saw my tacos with lettuce on them, she made a u-turn and went back. She walked inside and threw an unwrapped taco in the cashier's face. These were supposed to be without lettuce. What does this look like to you!? SMACK + 57 ...
2354PK 7y ago Edited 7y ago I once watched my father lose his shit over those liners for hanging baskets as a teenager. you know the ones that are made of coconut pulp? Anyway, we went to Home Depot and I went with him to buy herb plants. I check out, no big deal. Не checks out, and they ring up more expensive than he thought, and he complains. They were on sale, 30% off or something. She points out that that was just the smaller ones, not the big ones like he got. Не immediately starts screaming about how
Walkbyfaith123 7y ago Not super terrible but my mom used to be really into couponing. Like extreme couponing where the store would pay her after shopping visits. Used to have to wait around 20 minutes just to check out so the cashier could scan every coupon. Usually one or two wouldn't work, so of course, this calls for a manager. Another 10 minutes goes by just waiting for the manager to come and fix it. At this point the cashier starts telling people to get in another line because we're taking too long (but not in a mean way). Used
Streaks- 6y ago When I was 6 my mom took my brothers and I out to Golden Corral for dinner. She went up to the buffet, got a steak, and came back to the table. She's an avid A1 steak sauce fan and cannot, i repeat, cannot eat steak without it. She poured out the A1 onto her plate, tasted it, and was instantly horrified. She proceeded to pour out the Golden Corral Steak Sauce right next to the A1 and it matched perfectly. Outraged, she called over a waitress and eventually the manager showing them her little experiment and
psychswot 6y ago I was with my parents on vacation and the hotel put charges on the bill by accident. My mom marched to the front desk and demanded to see the manager. There was a long line, but she cut right in front of it. The manager wasn't very helpful, probably because she was rude. So my mom, went to all the other customers in line and told them that the hotel was a scam and they were ripping us off with fake charges. She made a scene. The hotel called the police and we were escorted off the
Deminla 6y ago . Before Value Village (Savers in the States I think) changed policies, she would cut tags to get discounts since the cashiers would basically make up whatever price they thought it would be, on the spot. If they high balled it, she would get a manager involved and I hated that. + 16K ...
solus-esse-nolo 6y ago e My Mum demanded to see a café's hygiene certificate when she saw an employee go from cutting cake in the kitchen to handling money at the till, even though the real problem is going the other way. + 13K ...

SpaceChauffeur 6y ago One time I was in a record store with my dad. Не bought a record that was 19,99 euros. Не paid using a 20 euro bill. The clerk took the money and put it in the register and gave my dad the cd in a plastic bag. I started walking off when I noticed my dad wasn't moving. As I turn around I hear him say to the record store clerk You still have to give me my cent back. The clerk replies that they don't return one or two cents because they don't accept them and
alaginge 6y ago One time my Grandad got a sausage roll at a football match during half time, when he got back to his seat he found it was overdone, the pastry was quite burned. The man was irate. Не didn't take it back straight away as the second half was about to start, but he spent much of the second half angrily lamenting his savoury snack letdown. So he takes it home, calls the customer service number on the back (I assume he had a few choice words for the poor soul on the other end but I wasn't
ohhellnoxd 6y ago Edited 6y ago When I was a young child on a long distance flight my mother let me and my brother sleep on the floor. For safety reasons the flight attendants told my mother that we were not allowed to sleep on the floor. She started to argue with the flight attendants who then turned to the pilots. The pilots threatened to turn the plane around unless we get up from the floor but she continued to argue. The pilots anounced they were about to turn around because of my mother, so all the passangers got pissed.
GrilledStuffedDragon 6y ago My mother did this in restaurants nonstop growing up. She would demand to see the manager because my burger (which I asked for medium) had some pink in it. + 22K ...
curtisc-j 6y ago Right so my mum and me went shopping, and she dropped a melon on the way out. She then claimed it was bruised and demanded a full refund. When she refused, she shouted at customer service and demanded the manager. I just sat there with a kill me now expression on my face. After, one of the customer service employees gave me a chocolate bar, so 7yo me was happy. + 25K ...
6y ago I was 13 when this happened. My mom had made a reservation at a hotel for a trip, but when she got there the lady said there was some error with the reservation and that my mom's payment didn't go through, so the lady offered us a double bed room for a discount. Rather than just taking the room, thanking the lady, and leaving, my mom decided the best course of action would be to scream, in the middle of a hotel lobby, NOBODY IS GOING ANYWHERE TIL I GET MY FUCKING ROOM! She then proceeded to
6y ago Edited 6y ago I was at a Steak n Shake with my mom and sister (~10 at the time?). I ordered a bowl of chili, my usual, and the bowls had recently changed. The new bowl was shallower than before and my mom wasn't having it. She made the waitress get a smaller size and pour to compare. I think the quantities ended up being similar, even though there were different charges. She proceeded to give the management a tongue lashing. Mostly I felt incredibly humiliated for myself, my sister, the staff, and anyone nearby who could
