37 of the Funniest Burns from the Week of November 25, 2024
Despite some rather questionable marketing choices, Wicked has soared to great heights at the box office. Not only did it achieve the biggest opening for a movie based on a Broadway show (at more than $115 million), but its near $16 million Monday gave the bewitching film the best Monday ever for a November film. Universal hopes to capitalize on rave reviews and word-of-mouth to undercut Disney’s Moana sequel this holiday weekend, but Wicked’s most impressive achievement has absolutely nothing to do with box-office returns or potential Oscars. One Twitter user posted a Change.org petition begging Universal to “Keep James Corden Out of Wicked the Movie” and hopes that the people who signed it feel completely vindicated. Another prays that Hollywood learned the right lesson from the film’s success and never casts Corden in anything ever again.
The cursed Cats comedian can at least take solace in the fact that he was just one of many people to be ripped to shreds by the timeline during this abbreviated holiday week. Other digital burn victims included bartenders, the NFL’s white noise and someone with a shadow straight out of Hey Arnold!.
