Jinkies! It looks like Velma is getting the ax. Max decided against renewing Charlie Grandy and Mindy Kaling’s take on Mystery Inc.’s resident brainiac after the series’ second season aired this spring. In a statement, the streamer thanked Grandy and Kaling for creating “an incredibly fun and fresh world within the iconic whodunit franchise.” Despite breaking Max’s record for biggest premiere day of an original animated show, Velma was panned by critics and audiences alike, making its future dubious at best from pretty much the start. Still, Kaling might have gotten away with it — if it weren’t for that meddling network.
Meanwhile, Netflix’s latest cancellation is downright ungodly. It just scrapped the Greek mythology comedy Kaos after only one season, even though the Jeff Goldblum-led series spent most of the last month among its Top 10 trending programs.
