The Sarah Silverman of today isn’t the same Sarah Silverman of yesterday — a change that she says Donald Trump inspired. During an appearance on the Fail Better podcast, Silverman had an open conversation with host David Duchovny about abandoning her familiar “arrogant ignorant” character. She told Duchovny that the decision was born less from audiences “not laughing at (her) racist jokes anymore” and more because of the 2016 election results, which put someone in office that “embodies that (character) completely.”
Silverman went on to acknowledge that some of her old stuff “doesn’t hold up anymore” and that a comedian’s material should “grow or change” through personal growth or in reaction to the social change taking place around them.
Meanwhile, God helped Kathie Lee Gifford put an end to her 30-year-old feud with Howard Stern. In her new memoir, Gifford opens up about how the big guy upstairs “told” the former Today host to visit Stern and “wish him well.” At the time, the shock jock was making an appearance on the Today Show to announce his upcoming stint as an America’s Got Talent judge, where Gifford tracked him down and wished him the best. Gifford explained that Stern called her later that day and squashed their beef for good by apologizing for three decades’ worth of insults.
Thankfully, no one told these timeline comedians to change their ways, otherwise we may not have this new batch of hilarious material. Today’s funniest tweets include those about fallen fast-food soldiers, Hollywood’s selective service system and Quahog’s 9/11.
