Peacock has officially ordered the still-untitled mockumentary set in the same universe as The Office. Like the original, the series will feature an ensemble cast, this time led by Domhnall Gleeson (White House Plumbers) and Sabrina Impacciatore (The White Lotus). According to a press release, the long-gestating project will focus on “the documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch in search of a new subject when they discover a dying historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it with volunteer reporters.”
NBC made some other news today, too. While a number of its shows met the dismal fate that is cancellation, a pair of familiar faces were actually blessed by the network. Sleeper hit Lopez vs. Lopez was renewed for a third season thanks to strong ratings, and the network also gave a series order to a Reba McEntire-led pilot, which will reunite the team that produced the singer’s long-running titular WB/CW show. The new multi-cam comedy is set in the culinary world and will debut during the 2024-2025 broadcast season — along with the new season of Lopez vs. Lopez.
Comedy is also alive and well on the timeline. Today’s funniest tweets include those about an ancient piece of technology, the ideal drunk cigarette and the most likely thing for George Miller to do.
