The meme album cover is better than the original
The Funniest Memes from the Week of May 13, 2024

Memes used to have a much longer shelf life. But these days, our internet connections are faster and a lot of millennials are unemployed, meaning any bit of bizarre news can go viral, and it can be hard to keep up. Case in point: Wondering why people keep posting pictures of gas nozzles? It’s all because some guy got caught putting a gas station nozzle in a hole he shouldn’t have, and now he’s getting memed into oblivion.

All of which is to say, if you don’t know about the many eulogies for Young Sheldon or haven’t heard about the gassed-up exhibitionist, keep reading. Also, sorry in advance — that guy puts the gas nozzle exactly where you think he does.

King Charles’ Portrait

Earlier this week, Buckingham Palace revealed Jonathan Yeo’s official portrait of King Charles III, and the royal art looked absolutely hellish. Twitter users did everything from photoshopping the image onto Slayer album covers to likening the portrait to the cursed Ghostbusters painting.

Young Sheldon’s Finale

The longstanding Big Bang Theory prequel series finally came to an end after seven seasons, but a tweet by @DiscussingFilm honoring the show’s finale made the end of a show look like the death of its star character — and everyone paid their respects with a passion not seen since the Sopranos finale.

The Portal

After connecting Lithuania and Poland with a set of video “portals” that allowed the two nations to connect in real time at the art installation, Lithuanian artist Benediktas Gylys expanded his horizons by connecting New York City and Dublin. Unfortunately, the portals were closed almost as quickly as they were opened because the last two groups of people you should trust to take something seriously are New Yorkers and the Irish. When the portal was closed due to “inappropriate behavior,” Twitter’s finest clicked around and created the connections they wanted to see in the world.

Harrison Butker’s Commencement Speech

When you think of the members of the Kansas City Chiefs who paved the way for a monumental Super Bowl win, the names that come to mind are Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce. The one name that doesn’t come to mind is Harrison Butker. But fret not — thanks to a rather baffling commencement speech at Benedictine College, the kicker got his time in the spotlight after longing for the days where “men were men” and women stayed in the kitchen. Surprising no one, he got roasted online.

Gas Station Pump Guy

Ever see a warning sign so obvious that you want to meet the idiot responsible for the rule being made? Look no further than the Italian man who got caught on camera pleasuring himself with a gas nozzle. While his pump was short-lived, it fueled a slew of memes in his honor.

Because of Woke

According to right-wing pundits, the woke mob is taking everything away from us. This meme has been around for a couple of years now, but is pretty much always trending, thanks to the likes of Bill Maher and whoever else is complaining that a former slave isn’t on syrup bottles anymore. Enjoy these memes before we’re all silenced by the not-so-tolerant left!
