Just a few months after bombing during his second SNL hosting stint, Shane Gillis decided to take another go at fulfilling his apparent public humiliation fetish, delivering a disastrous monologue at last night’s ESPY awards.
In a set “that appeared to fall flat,” as People put it, Gillis was booed for his offensive jokes targeting celebrities like University of North Carolina football coach Bill Belichick and WNBA star Caitlin Clark. “When Caitlin Clark retires from the WNBA, she’s going to work at a Waffle House so she can continue doing what she loves most: fistfighting Black women,” he told the unamused audience.
As Gillis seems to revel in his failures, Bill Hader feels a genuine sense of shame about one of his less dignified moments. On the A24 Podcast, Hader told the story of the time he was booted from Martin Scorsese’s dressing room after nerding out too hard over the storied director. “I just wanted to rap with him so badly about movies,” Hader told Ari Aster of the encounter. “The producer pulled my shirt, like, ‘Bill, get out of his dressing room, please.’”
Luckily, we have these funny tweets to relieve you of Gillis’ and Hader’s cringeworthy moments. Today’s best posts include those about a reason to stay single, a caffeine equation and unconventional German road trips.
