16 Wild Unaired Moments Witnessed at a Sporting Event

Getting featured on the Jumbotron is pretty cool, and making it to broadcast is cooler still. But there are hours and hours of even better footage from sporting events that don’t make it to screen. They can’t show us the goods, but the following Redditors shared some of the funniest unaired moments from games they’ve ever attended.

One Redditor, for instance, was working a hockey game and found two enthusiastic little girls who were rooting for their team and taunting the opposition. Someone on the opposing team couldn’t take the heat and flipped the little girls off. The Redditor caught all of it on camera, but airing it on TV was obviously a no-no.

A number of other moments like that are on instant replay in Redditors’ minds, including those involving a hot dog vendor stuffing his pants, a very dumb NBA player and an unsettling “Hot Girl Cam.”

angry_plasma_cutter 6y ago When I wasn't competing, I would photograph horse shows for The company hired. Of course, people fell off, but our boss made us delete those shots. then someone complained, a coach, and he bo ought all the photos of his students falling off and made a Wall of Shame in the lounge at his stable. Other coaches loved this, followed his lead. 6 Share ...
TamLux 6y ago Not a cameraman, but my mum and dad were at a rugby match and my mum yelled cheater! at the top of her lungs that was missing from the telivised version 10 Share ...
Doades 6y ago Ok I wasn't the cameraman here but I was operating the switch board for my university's hockey game. During the game, one of the opposing players got kicked out for something and was leaving through the tunnel (should be noted his team is not good at all and was losing bad that night). Camera guy catches the player, as he's leaving the game, starting to swing his stick at a wall. Stops in mid swing though bc there was a woman near where he was aiming plus cops around. At another hockey game that I was doing
damnmyeye e 6y ago I was combing through blimp footage for a PGA Tour event and the blimp caught a couple going at it on the hood of a Camaro. 4 Share ...
bedknobsandbroomstix 6y ago Did some contract work for ESPN in the late 90s. Was working in the control room and noticed a camera feed with an X taped over it. I asked what that was about and they said it was the 'hot chick cam'. Basically it was that cameras job to find someone hot in the stands and follow her around, or jump between other hot women. The tape was there to remind them not to make that feed live. Really creeped me out. - 106 Share ...
EddieMurphysDad 6y ago Connor McDavid swinging his stick at a fan. This was during the 2015 OHL championship series. The game was over, McDavid's team lost and the fan was taunting him. We had a look at what happened, but since the game was over the cameras were being torn down and not shooting game follow. You couldn't tell definitively it was McDavid swinging the stick. Since he missed hitting the fan, coupled with the fact that he was the league's golden boy, nothing came of it. Quite honestly, the fan, who was a grown ass man, probably deserved it.
olraygoza 6y ago | have captured lots of NBA players being really stupid or saying really dumb things. One moderately famous player said that carpenters are those people who make carpets. Не was being serious. I was asked to delete that footage. Also, whenever a player disses the network that gets removed or if they get political. 36 Share ...
gambler328 6y ago One of the best signs I ever saw was when they were scanning the crowd and there's a dude holding a sign the says You can't spell penis without ESPN. They cut away real quick, but I laughed for a while on that one. Share 147 ...
oooooooooof 6y ago Not my story to tell, but I'm a Toronto kid. Our baseball team the Blue Jays play a venue called the Sky Dome (now the Rogers Centre, sigh), and one of the perks of this stadium is that it contains a hotel. If you book a room, some of the rooms' windows look out over the field. Anyway, the cameramen used to pan along the hotel windows occasionally, either live to air or just in the stadium itself on the jumbtotron, until one time, a couple was having very intense sex against the hotel window. And that
SirRyno 6y ago Back in the 80's we had a vcr tape that was put together by the crews that worked the sporting events back in the day. My dad's best friend was an engineer that did that kind of work. There was: people screwing, players running across the field with giant dildo's, naked people, blow jobs, topless girls in the infield at races, a drunk naked dude running and jumping in the mud in the infield, and more sex... There was depravity I had not seen at that point in my life. I wish we still had that tape.
horsepills 6y ago | was the digital archivist for an nhl franchise. Part of my job was to log footage of the game, tag clips of big goals, hits etc. | was fast forwarding through the in-house feed when I noticed a hit. A big hit. I mean an almighty, drop the shoulder body check, right infront of the crease. The unusual thing: it was during the intermission. The team mascot, a 40 year old man was perpetrator. The victim, a six year old girl. - 239 Share ...
-brightlights- 6y ago I used to be a cameraman for big time sports events and one time I saw the hotdog selling guy pull out a hotdog and put in in his pants so it looked like he had a big time wiener. 238 Share ...
LookAtThatMonkey 6y ago . Edited 6y ago Watching a third round FA Cup game midweek in the pouring rain. Boring as hell. Heard a 'bloody hell', turned round to find the cameraman quickly refocusing on a large fat man wearing nothing but a large baby nappy and performing a 30ft kneeslide on the mud in front of the home fans. Camera guy laughing his head off, turned to me and said 'shame it won't make the highlights'.
productiveslacker73 6y ago I use to do camera work and the big sound dishes you see on the football sidelines, aka the salad bowls. Several sound sources would be merged together to get the collision sounds, grunts, quarterback hikes, etc. What we got to hear, but not broadcasted, was the awesome trash talk between the players, inc insults againsts moms, sisters, girlfriends, etc. Share 401 ...
revivegroupb 6y ago | worked as a video coordinator for an NFL team. I was in charge of practice footage and a small local prerecorded Gameday preshow. We often made highlights of unsuspecting people getting hit with stray footballs, coaching meltdowns, player fights, and slips/falls. This was a tradition within the organization that goes back to the 50's. These blooper reels are archived with the practice footage and gaurded with extreme security. 3 Share ...
