It was a very good day for a couple of ABC comedies. The network handed out an early renewal to its flagship sitcom Abbott Elementary, greenlighting a fifth season and bringing it one step closer to the place all sitcoms strive to land: syndication. ABC also blessed High Potential, Kaitlin Olson’s comedic take on the crime procedural, with a second season. 

Meanwhile, former ABC star George Lopez is hanging up his mic once and for all. The comedian announced his retirement from stand-up last year, saying he’s “subjected the American people to enough of his crap.” He will close this chapter of his career with one last show at L.A.’s Dolby Theater and a February special for Prime Video called George Lopez: Muy Católico. While Lopez is stepping away from stand-up, he’s not completely moving away from comedy, as his NBC sitcom Lopez vs. Lopez is still alive and kicking.
