Peeking up from behind a rock simply for curiosity’s sake, not because he’s terrified of widespread civil unrest.

He sees a nut, he chews on it for a bit. There is no inflation on his food prices, because he finds it all on the ground.

He knows it’s cold, but the existential threat of climate change is far beyond his comprehension.

They’re friends and they’re hanging out, and none of them are secretly harboring detestable political views that will eventually tear them apart.

Look at this fat little mouse! Odds are, too, that he’s lived his life of plenty without exploiting other, more unfortunate mice to reach this point.

He’s climbing out of a patch of freshly turned earth, not the rubble where the Capitol once stood.

He’s looking out over the land he grew up in, and not wondering if he’ll ever feel as safe as he used to.

He’s climbed to great heights, and done it without stepping on the backs of the working class.

The presence of wheat might mean he’s in the Midwest, but he doesn’t have an outsized effect on the future of the country, if not the world.

Will his lovely landscape be clear-cut and fracked for oil because of rising prices due to tensions in the Middle East? Not his concern.

Look at those ears! Lucky for him, he’ll never have to use them to listen to a full week of developing election results from mildly panicked news anchors.
