19 of the Funniest Tweets from the Week of January 22, 2023
The first full work week of 2024 has wrapped, and it sure felt long. Maybe we can blame it on Monday’s Oscar nominations reveal, which caused everyone and their failed presidential candidate to talk about Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie in ways that defied sense and logic.
That said, we’ve just had a long week; Austin Butler has had a long three years. After his star-turning role in 2022’s Elvis, Butler was the talk of the town because of how he talked. His Elvis-isms haunted him at every press junket and red-carpet interview. The spirit of Elvis compelled him so much that he needed a dialect coach to help him shake it. Butler sat down with Stephen Colbert this week to promote his new Apple TV+ mini-series Masters of the Air and described the painstaking efforts it took to “remember who (he) was” and “what (he) liked to do” as he transitioned into his latest role. Maybe now instead of sounding like the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll all the time, he’ll dole out World War II facts to interviewers.
In fairness, the long work week did generate a long list of hilarious tweets. The funniest ones included those about the impending doom of doing your own taxes, the rising power of Michigan sports and Liam Gallagher’s favorite sex position.
