As a freelance worker with generalized anxiety disorder, having a level of confidence that you won’t get fired sounds heavenly. Thanks to my brain’s constant low-level panic, every time my email pings, I start tying a bindle and checking trains to hop after my impending termination. After all, pretty much every job now is at-will employment, which is the evil bizarro version of tenure that allows you to be kicked to the curb at any time without so much as a hearty back-pat.
