Not that we need to remind you after a morning of wall-to-wall coverage, but it’s Oscar nomination day. Fresh off being the most-nominated comedy at the Golden Globes, Emilia Pérez continued its unprecedented domination with 13 Oscar noms, making it the most nominated non-English film in history. Tortured artists and theater nerds followed closely behind, with The Brutalist and Wicked nabbing 10 noms apiece. Claymation favorites Wallace & Gromit added a fourth nomination to their credits and officially tied Shrek as two of the most-nominated animated franchises of all-time.
But the nominations weren’t without snubs or surprises. On the snubs side of things, neither Will Ferrell nor Kristen Wiig came away with any recognition for their work on Will & Harper. Meanwhile, on the surprises side of the equation, Sebastian Stan’s portrayal of Donald Trump in The Apprentice earned him a nomination in the Best Actor category. Castmate Jeremy Strong was also nominated for his work in the film, which sets up another Roy brothers battle between him and his Succession co-star Kieran Culkin (nominated for A Real Pain).
Over on the timeline, though, everyone’s already struck gold. Today’s funniest tweets include those about the real marathon man, an icon in the flesh and a hot case of third-degree yearning.
