Halloween is just around the corner, and this year, there will be kids dressed as Deadpool, Ennui and a cute little Art the Clown. But there was a time when children dressed as the most unlikely thing you could think of: Rob Lowe. The Unstable actor recalled the first time he saw kids running around in Hawaiian shirts with a saxophone in hand, dressed as his Billy Hicks character from St. Elmo’s Fire. Lowe described the phenomenon as “surreal” and that having that kind of cultural impact was “a lot.”
Meanwhile, an early aughts filmmaker may have made more impact than he realized. Alex Proyas, who has been recently dumping on the abysmal reboot of his 1994 movie The Crow, shifted gears in order to drag someone else cramping his style. After Elon Musk rolled out a suite of new plans that included an entirely autonomous taxi and a suspiciously sentient robot bartender at an event late last week, people were quick to point out the similarities in his designs to those out of the Will Smith-led sci-fi film I, Robot — including director Proyas himself.
Proyas took to Twitter with a simple plea for the tech CEO: “Hey Elon, can I have my designs back please?” If things play out at all like they did in the 2004 movie, you definitely don’t want to get into that CyberCab should it ever come to fruition.
Over on Musk’s other losing business, the timeline comedians are giving us all they got. Today’s funniest tweets include those about a cowboy’s insistence, a boyfriend who stays ready and lead paint truthers.
