The word trope has become synonymous with cliche, but in the visual storytelling realm, at least, they’re actually the building blocks of any great script. When lazy movies and TV shows started relying a little too heavily on existing tropes instead of reaching a little deeper into the right side of our skull’s squishy meat sponge, once-beloved tropes get a collective, “Oh my god, it’s been done! We get it! Move on!”
