We need heroes — otherwise, a movie is just a series of unfortunate events that may or may not work themselves out. But not all heroes are created equally. Sometimes, a story would have played out exactly the same way if the hero had done nothing. Other times, they actively make things worse. That might be effective on a comedic level, but it doesn’t make for a great hero.
