Artificial intelligence tools are everywhere in the creative industry, and honestly, people are getting tired of it.
Any time one of the traditional outlets of the entertainment world rolls out a new computer-generated product, they’re bound to get backlash from fans and this Weekend Update on SNL was no exception.
On the most recent episode of Saturday Night Live, Colin Jost and Michael Che performed their usual jokes with the accompaniment of some suspicious-looking graphics, fans of SNL quickly accused them of using AI at the expense of human creativity, and, possibly, human jobs.
If Lorne Michaels really wants to start implementing AI on the show, he’s going to have to work hard to convince fans. While we can’t say for sure that the woman on the slots was created using AI, there’s no denying that she looks a bit off.
As always, the internet jumped to the conclusion that SNL is soft launching AI into its designs. “A lot of reasons why SNL using AI for stuff like this sucks, but my main gripe is just that it’s less funny! The intentionally kind of janky photoshops are part of the joke and beat the weird smooth AI aesthetic," one user wrote.
Unfortunately, using AI in this segment defeats the purpose.
Luckily for all of us, people on Twitter never stop sharing their opinions—on this topic or any other, for that matter. Today’s funniest tweets include the real symbol of American power, a helicopter ride to the airport, and a 26-inch TV remote.
