27 Trivia Nuggets From Pop Culture History For Thursday, December 18th
I used to watch a lot of programming as a kid on the Discovery Channel that led me to believe that if the Library of Alexandria had never burned down in one great, dramatic inferno, we’d all be teleporting to the moon right now. In reality, the library declined slowly over a long period of time. Yes, there was a fire, but it only damaged a portion of the collection and did a lot less damage than the budget cuts did.
It was a large, ambitious library, but it certainly didn’t contain all of the knowledge of the ancient world. It certainly had absolutely zero pop culture facts, considering that sort of thing didn’t exist yet. So, hunker down for some light reading that would confuse any ancient scholar.
