Honestly, not surprising at all

This week was all about people questioning the characters on The Simpsons.

The Simpsons iconic intro scene gives users a glimpse of what each member of the family is up to on a typical day of the week.

We watch Homer grab a glowing inanimate carbon rod with fancy tongs right before the whistle blows. But a very observant fan recently pointed out a tiny detail: did Homer Simpson ever actually do this on the show?

After all, for most of the series he’s supposedly a ‘safety inspector,’ which, in Homer terms, means snacking and napping professionally.

The debate took over the internet, with users pointing out that in the very first episode Homer actually had a totally different job — right up until he got fired. Then, in ‘Homer’s Odyssey,’ Mr. Burns promotes him to the safety-inspector role he somehow still has decades later.

Later, another user pointed out that Lisa’s actions in the intro were also atypical.“Why would Lisa Simpson be rushing out of a jazz band the second the clock strikes. Lisa loves playing jazz, she loves her saxophone, and she’s very punctual and well-behaved. Every time I watch the intro it seems to betray her very character and it disorientates me”.

So maybe some fans look way too closely at the details… but that’s a whole other debate.

The best comments when this happens are always on Twitter. Today’s funniest include experimenting with gratitude, a trick for when you’re late to work and a guy being brutally honest.
