Sometimes the cleaner it is… the funnier it hits.
Perhaps cursing your way through life is a relief to the soul. But when it gets as extreme as South Park, maybe it’s time to bring the bleep back.
The show hasn’t changed much after all these years. It’s still about the same group of child characters and all kinds of jokes. One clear difference between South Park’s earlier years and the current show is that the characters are now free to curse — maybe a little too much.
In the first four seasons, every time a character swore, the offending word got nuked with a bleep — which honestly made it funnier. Our imaginations did all the dirty work. We didn’t hear an uncensored curse until season five… and now that’s pretty much all we do hear.
Is it possible that the bleeps made the joke funnier? One user suggested that “bleeps call attention to it. It puts a different emphasis and spin on things.” A bleep can imply a lot, and in this case, it helps the joke land even harder.
Thankfully, Twitter always delivers jokes. Today’s funniest include an ever-returning bride, olive oil ice-cream?? and a trick question.
