53 of the Funniest Tweets from the Week of August 25, 2025
SNL’s new episodes will still be live from New York, but that’s where its similarities to last season end.
As Lorne Michaels foretold, the past week brought a lot of casting shake-ups to Saturday Night Live. As of Friday afternoon, stars Heidi Gardner, Michael Longfellow, Emil Wakim and Devon Walker, as well as writers Celeste Yim and Rosebud Baker are all out at the long-running sketch show, with Walker denouncing SNL’s “toxic as hell” environment. “We made the most of what it was, even amidst all of the dysfunction,” Walker wrote on Instagram. “We made a fucked up lil family.”
This family may only grow more fractured ahead of the show’s October 4th season premiere. “Weekend Update” anchor Michael Che continues to post cryptic Instagram Stories about his future at SNL while rumors swirl about whether or not Bowen Yang will return for a seventh season without Yim, his longtime creative partner. Please Don’t Destroy may also be destroyed amid these casting changes. According to internet rumors, Ben Marshall, John Higgins and Martin Herlihy are all going their separate ways, with one supposedly leaving the series, another joining the writers’ room and a third landing among the show’s main cast.
The final tally of which SNL stars will return to Studio 8H this fall remains between God and Michaels, but we can say with much more certainty that these tweets are absolutely hysterical. The week’s funniest included those about spicy DMs, Field Day and how to insert VHS tapes.
