Given his historic run on the series, it’s hard to imagine It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia without The Lawyer. But initially, Brian Unger didn’t see a longtime future for his character.
Ahead of his return to Paddy’s Pub on Wednesday night, Unger recounted his early days on the show and revealed that he assumed his brush with The Gang would be a one-time encounter. “I thought it’d just be one and done. So, it’s been this huge gift to come back,” Unger explained, noting that he’s worked to “develop more of a backstory” for his character with each subsequent appearance. “I just wanted to know more about him because he’s obviously re-engaging these people for some reason.”
But unfortunately, not every series makes the right decisions. Full House creator Jeff Franklin owned up to his show’s biggest blunders, naming “Tanner Island,” the Hawaiian vacation episode, as one of the sitcom’s worst installments. During a recent episode of the How Rude, Tanneritos! podcast, Franklin says that the venture “had so much potential and cost so much money,” but admitted there was “no real storyline,” “no emotional throughline,” nor a heartwarming lesson at the end. “We went to so much trouble, and it was so silly.”
