Unless Mel Brooks manages to source a really good Ouija board ahead of filming, John Candy won’t be returning for the Spaceballs sequel. Regardless, Candy’s impact on the cast and crew of the 1987 comedy continues to live on.
During a recent appearance on The Patrick LabyorSheaux with Patrick Labyorteaux podcast, Daphne Zuniga opened up about starring as Princess Vespa in the original film, recalling that Candy “was so kind to everyone” on set of the classic spoof. “At the end of our shoot of Spaceballs, he had made a little plaque with a gold bone that was spray-painted gold and it said, ‘Spaceballs, love John,’” she remembered of the late comedian’s wholesome parting gift.
Glenn Howerton, however, is reflecting on some less-than-wholesome moments from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Days ahead of Always Sunny’s Season 17 premiere, the actor addressed the show’s controversial Lethal Weapon episodes, arguing that despite their usage of blackface and redface, the installments aren’t actually that racist. “A true bigot probably won’t be able to appreciate the humor behind the show,” Howerton insisted to T, the New York Times’ style magazine.
