He’s an April Fool for life

It sounds like an April Fool’s Day joke, but a healthcare executive is actually suing John Oliver for “damaging his reputation and personal well-being.”

The defamation suit stems from a segment on the late-night host’s show last year, which focused on the shortcomings of Medicaid and insensitivity of insurance executives. To bring his point home, Oliver played clips of 2017 audio testimony from Dr. Brian Morley, who then served as an executive with AmeriHealth Caritas, in which Morley stated, “People have bowel movements every day where they don’t completely clean themselves, and we don’t fuss over (them) too much. People are allowed to be dirty, you know. I would allow him to be a little dirty for a couple days.”

Oliver had a rage-filled rant in response, saying “Look, I’ll be honest — when I first heard that, I thought that has to be taken out of context. There is no way a doctor, a licensed physician, would testify in a hearing that he thinks it’s okay if people have shit on them for days!” and later stating that he hopes Morley “gets tetanus of the balls.”

It’s unclear whether the defamation suit will hold any water, and Oliver has yet to respond, but Morley is seeking removal of the episode from all platforms and compensatory damages for the whole ordeal. We can’t say how this lawsuit will fare in the court of law, but given the overwhelming calls for healthcare reform in America, it’s hard to believe everyday people will be on the doctor’s side.

While a lawsuit is no laughing matter, these hilarious tweets are worth a chuckle. Today’s funniest include those about a pork-centric party foul, a better name for A.I. art and a valid reason for not hanging out.
