45 of the Funniest Tweets from the Week of January 13, 2025
Last week, Shrek fans learned that they’re going to have to wait a little bit longer for the green ogre’s triumphant return to the big screen. The fifth installment of the Oscar-winning franchise was originally set to premiere next summer, but Universal Pictures announced that the new sequel will now be the studio’s landmark Christmas release.
Alongside this release update, the animated classic inadvertently became a conservative talking point. For some reason, right-leaning Twitter users aired their concerns that Shrek 5 will feature the titular ogre caving to the woke mob and “questioning his sexuality,” despite the fact that the franchise has played into non-traditional, gender-bending humor since the very start.
As Los Angeles looks to move forward in the wake of last week’s devastating fires, one local resident is helping out — and doing it in style. Jay Leno hopped behind the wheel of his vintage 1941 American LaFrance fire truck to deliver hot meals to volunteers and victims alike. The act of goodwill served as a nice respite from the rumors that Leno got his ass handed to him by the mafia.
And as SNL continues its 50th anniversary celebration, one former castmate revealed why his time on the show was so short. Ben Stiller told the New York Times that while being part of the show was always a “dream,” he ultimately wasn’t set up for success there. During his four-episode stint, the comedian let his nerves get the best of him after he realized he “wasn’t great at live performing” and would much rather be “making short films.”
All the while, the week was full of great tweets. This week’s funniest included those about an ominous notification, real guy stuff and Lois Griffins for everyone with the eyes to see them.
