NBC is adding to its ever-growing fleet of comic book store workplace comedies, and it’s doing so with the help of a very famous comic book junkie: Kevin Smith. Variety just revealed that the network is developing Local Heroes, a new series that’s said to be inspired by Smith’s actual comic book store in New Jersey. The single-cam series will follow “a group of comic book store regulars who band together to solve crimes in their hometown.”
The Library of Congress is also growing, as the National Film Preservation Board has announced the 25 films that will join the National Film Registry. Most of the titles are the ones you’d expect — e.g., the original cult classic Texas Chainsaw Massacre and David Fincher’s Facebook fable The Social Network — but some surprising wildcards made the list, too, including Cheech and Chong’s Up in Smoke and Robert Rodriguez’s Spy Kids. This means that the Librarian of Congress considered the thumb people from Spy Kids to be of enough cultural, historic or aesthetic importance to have a place alongside The Godfather.
