42 of the Funniest Burns from the Week of September 30, 2024

I think we all are…

The rascally baby bandits from the Rugrats are returning to the big screen in a way that’s yet to be explored across the franchise’s 30-year history. Earlier this week Deadline exclusively reported that the classic ‘90s cartoon is set for a hybrid live-action/CGI feature adaptation from Saturday Night Live writers Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell, with Pitch Perfect director Jason Moore on board to direct.

The undertaking, of course, ignores the fact that so much of the charm and whimsy of the beloved series comes from its very specific animation style — but the timeline didn’t. One Twitter user illustrated the horrifying reality of what a CGI Tommy Pickles could look like, effectively making us classify this adaptation as a horror film.

But the Rugrats movie wasn’t the only topic the timeline had a field day with this week. Other digital burn victims included art fit for a mall kiosk, the YA series that’s unbecoming for a young scholar and the funniest movie of Billy Crystal’s career.
