No one is doing that

Future audiences may not be so kind to Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, but the first one to see it at the Venice Film Festival liked it enough to give it a three-minute standing ovation. The film stars Jenna Ortega and Winona Ryder as Astrid and Lydia Deetz, respectively, and focuses on three generations of Deetz women. While many familiar faces returned to revive their beloved characters, Tim Burton told People that not bringing back the Maitlands (played by Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis) was a very deliberate decision, and that the follow-up exists without “ticking boxes” and relying on fan service.

In less understandable news, Gwyneth Paltrow is set to take on her first film role since Avengers: Endgame by joining Timothée Chalamet in Josh Safdie’s ping-pong movie Marty Supreme. Paltrow’s role, like many other details about the film, is undisclosed, so there’s no saying who the Oscar-winning actress will be playing. The only thing that’s certain is that she’s not the titular Marty Supreme. Probably?

Over on the timeline, they’re serving up a healthy dose of hysterical tweets. Today’s funniest include those about the publication dejected by the current box-office offerings, sibling hijinks and a rap battle that was wrapped up before it could even start.
